Frame Tent

Tents have been used since the nomads’ traveled the world. Such as the Mongolian, Tibetan Nomads, Native Americans and the Bedouin. They are also used for weddings, major corporate events, and backyard parties. They can be used for covering the excavation sites.

The military all over the world uses a frame tent as part of the working life of the military. They are at most times, preferred by the military for the quick setup and break down times. The United States Department of Defense is the largest user of the frame tent. They do have extreme restrictions on the rules, quality and specifications. For years the military has used a frame tent for temporary barracks (military sleeping quarters), DFAC (dining halls), and forward operating bases (FOB’s) security checkpoints and others.

Modern military is now using a frame tent called TEMPER, meaning Tent Expandable Modular Personnel. As well as the deployable rapid assembly shelter (DRASH.)

For the camping family or singles there is a frame tent that are very popular. It is economical and practical saving a lot of money for motels. It is a lot more fun to boot. They are portable and have a low environmental impact. This type frame tents are great for hiking in the wilderness or the backcountry.

For world wide disasters a frame tent can be seen everywhere. Where there is war, earthquakes or fire you will see the frame tent. The favorite choice of a frame tent is usually made out of cotton, because cotton is a ‘breathable’ material, which is much needed when serving the purpose of a temporary shelter. Unfortunately, a frame tent becomes the home of the displaced people from earthquakes, fires or flooding. They are also used in refugee camps or even shanty towns. These people can not return to their homes, because usually they are gone or destroyed beyond repair.

A frame tent can be made of different materials, such as canvas, nylon, cotton, felt or polyester. A cotton made frame tent absorbs water, therefore making it extremely heavy to carry, although the cotton swells when wet and close up minute holes. Some frame tents made of cotton are coated with paraffin to make it more water resistance. Nylon and or polyester frame tent is more waterproof than treated cotton.

This type of frame tent is much lighter and somewhat easier to erect than cotton.
In a frame tent there as what the manufactures call capacities of the tent as ‘three berth’ or ‘two person’ phrases. This just means how many people can fit comfortably in a tent. These numbers do not take in effect the amount of personal items, such as camp beds, cots, food, camping stoves, etc. nor does it allow for the height of the people.

There are many frame tent that can be used for almost any type of camping. Just be sure to buy the one that will fit the needs of the entire family. They should have at least one window, a vent and a door opening. There is also a frame tent that comes with a mesh mosquito’s door; it keeps those ‘no see ums’ out.
